COB BUILDING WORKSHOP
Cob Building Workshop Thursday, July 29, 10am to 4pm Havenwood, 3221 Heatherbell Road, Colwood $25/person
Come help Colwood Community Place repair our cob oven while you play in the clay and learn about cob building. Enjoy a great day with a group of other fun people – expertly facilitated by Beth Cruise of the Canadian Earth Institute.
Earth – the stuff under your feet – the most common and versatile building material on the planet. For six days in August 2008, 66 people between the ages of 2 and 65 built the Colwood Community Cob Oven, which has since been serving deliciously throughout the West Shore at a variety of local food events. People all over the world still bake in earthen ovens. The best ovens in the fanciest bakeries are often made of brick or kiln-dried mud because they provide an even source of three kinds of heat – radiant, conduction and convection.
