BC Arts Series: Artist Talk - Rachel Hellner

November 1, 2007

Aerial Landscapes, mixed media paintings by Rachel Hellner

Have you been enjoying the artwork in our office recently? Join the artist, Rachel Hellner, for a lunch time talk about her work noon – 1.30 pm Thursday November 1, 2007 at our offices (202-1005 Broad St, through Flowers on Top and up the stairs). Bring a brown bag lunch and we’ll provide the Fair Trade coffee.

Artist Rachel Hellner will be talking about her mixed media paintings depicting the inherent beauty and pattern in aerial landscape.

The paintings were inspired through years of travelling by air, mostly between England and Canada. There is an intriguing ambiguity about the patterns seen from such an altitude: the land resembles grids, abstract designs and patchwork quilts.

Rachel Hellner was born in London, England and graduated from Saint Martins School of Art in 1991. Since 1993, she has lived in Victoria, BC, where she is an exhibiting artist and member of Xchanges, Canada’s oldest artists’ co-operative. She received her Masters in Art Education from the University of Victoria and currently works there as an Instructor.

This talk is the latest in our BC Arts Series.
